Preorders, a sales month and a sign-up sheet
NVIDIA's October 7 post describes a Microsoft event in San Francisco on Wednesday, where NVIDIA announced RTX Spark laptops and compact desktops for Windows and previewed DGX Station for Windows. The dates are the useful part. NVIDIA says laptop preorders are open and the laptops are available October 16. Compact desktops go on sale in November. DGX Station for Windows comes with an invitation to sign up and be told when it is available, and no date. Three products, three clocks, and only one of them has an availability date a buyer can write down.

The memory figures come with a configuration
NVIDIA describes RTX Spark as a Blackwell RTX GPU with up to 6,144 cores paired with an up to 20-core Grace CPU, with up to 128GB of unified memory and one petaflop of FP4 AI performance. Microsoft's Pavan Davuluri said Surface Laptop Ultra was built around RTX Spark, with up to 128 gigabytes of unified memory and up to a petaflop of AI compute. For the DGX Station preview, NVIDIA claims 748GB of coherent memory and up to 20 petaflops of FP4 compute. Every one of these is a company figure, and most arrive with an up to attached. NVIDIA names systems coming from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, MSI and Gigabyte, from slim laptops to compact desktops. The post offers model examples and gaming frame rates as NVIDIA claims. It does not measure any ordinary business workload.

The chassis belongs in the brief
The compact desktop puts the same RTX Spark superchip in a small chassis that NVIDIA says is designed for 24/7 operation, a dedicated local box that keeps agents running continuously. DGX Station for Windows, in NVIDIA's account, keeps Linux AI toolchains reachable through WSL when needed. Silver Owl view: those two sentences describe two different installations. A box that is meant to run around the clock needs a shelf, a power circuit, someone who patches it and a plan for what happens when it is off. A deskside development machine needs someone who knows which environment a job is running in. Ask those questions before the spec sheet gets interesting.

Write the acceptance sheet first
Picture a hypothetical two-person studio choosing between a portable development laptop and a dedicated desk box. Our advice is to build an availability sheet before anything is ordered: the exact configuration, the vendor's stated availability, the job the machine is for and one acceptance check it must pass on a normal working day. Mark every unanswered line unverified. Treat the DGX Station preview as a lead, not a plan, until a date arrives. And do not let local processing stand in for a privacy or security review. That needs its own evidence.
